News & Announcements

There were, as always, the regular Saturday night meet-ups in May.  Sadly no pictures unfortunately.

It was brought to our attention by quite a few of you that a couple of the venues were difficult to get to for the majority of those members that attend regularly.  The venues in Chigwell, Southgate and Waltham Abbey had only 8-9 members attending (on occasion, less) whereas The Three Hammers saw a much larger number.  Therefore, we have again listened to the majority and the only venues currently that meet-ups will be organised at will be The Three Hammers in Mill Hill and Holiday Inn in Elstree.

That said, we also had a few of you from Essex explain that it was difficult for you to get to the North West London and Herts. venues.  To this effect, we're going to work something out.

We try very hard to keep everyone happy but it's often a hard task!

Paul Blackstein took a group of JWDS members on a Walking Tour around parts of London.  The feedback was that it was a fantastic day and the next one is much awaited.  Everyone ended up at a lovely little Pub to rest their weary toes and relax in the sunshine.  Thank you so much Paul (such a shame there were no photos with you in them).

The monthly Spousal Bereavement Group was at Barry Finer's home and we would like to thank him for kindly offering to host. This took place on Monday 3rd June.

Thanks to Charles Crook for hosting the Group last month.

The next one will be on Monday 1st July at Judi Stone's home in Barnet. Thank you Judi for offering to host.

It would be much appreciated if you would please make a small donation of £2 towards refreshments.

If any members would like to attend, please message one of the Admins.  The Bereavement Group information can be found on the JWDS Facebook Page in the "Events" section.

Our annual Supper Quiz was a huge success again.  We had 90 members with teams of 10.  There was a wonderful Raffle Table with lovely prizes, some that members kindly donated.  Thank you to those of you that did - you know who you are.  Your raffle money helped raise £420 to go in Trust for Elize Steven's Grandson.  The food was hot and delicious and we catered for all those with dietary requirements.  Arnie created and compèred the Quiz which went down tremendously. Well done to the winning Table I - you looked great sporting your medals.  Commiserations to the losing table B - we hope you'll remember us when you use your consolation prizes.  Well done to Barbara Shepstone for winning 2 tickets for a meal at El Vaquero worth £50 in the "Guess the Number of Beads in the Jar"...there were in fact 4,290 (and yes we have photos to prove we counted them!!) :)  An extra £60 raised.

A few of you have asked us why the £25 that you paid for your ticket, was also not donated to the family.  Please understand, the time and effort we put in to organise something this big, the cost of the hall, the food, the accessories, etc comes out of our personal pockets therefore, the £25 you pay means we recoup what we have spent...and so on and so forth with other Events. This is exactly what we did last year when we raised money for the Lymphoma Association.  We are not a Certified Charity and only do this as a gesture.  We mention each time that proceeds from the Raffle go to the chosen Charity. We hope this clarifies the situation.

There is a monthly Coffee Morning organised by the members in their homes.
Please contact Andrea Wayne or Carole Zirlin for further details.

We organised an outing to Radlett Theatre to see "Ashley Baker & Imran Yusuf - Prophet Sharing".  It was extremely funny and everyone seemed to have a really enjoyable evening.

Saturday 22nd June 2019 we have arranged a Meet Up in the garden at the Battleaxes Pub in Radlett at 8pm.

It's the 1st Birthday Party for JWDS ... yayyyyyy ... so we hope to see as many of you as possible to celebrate with us. This is very exciting for us and it's with huge thanks to all of you who've made this Group what it is. What a wonderful excuse for cake, party hats, alcohol and a great night filled with laughter.

Hello to all new members, we look forward to meeting you in the near future. Thank you also to our long-standing members who continue to make this Group what it is.

As always we're humbled by the lovely comments we receive and the knowledge that so many of you feel comfortable within this lovely and friendly Group.  We very much want to thank you for appreciating all we do behind the scenes to arrange these Events and get-togethers for you.
